Beef and Hazelnut Stewpot Recipes

Ingredients :

50 g butter

225 g onions, peeled and very thinly sliced

1 3/4 to 2 kg cubed braising steak, washed and drained

125 g mushrooms, rinsed, drained, thinly sliced

330 ml tomato and vegetable juice or plain tomato juice if preferred

2-3 tsp salt

125 g hazelnuts

2 tbsp plain flour

275 ml cold water

Method :
  1. Sizzle butter in heavy based saucepan.
  2. Add onions and fry over medium heat until warm gold.
  3. Add meat cubes, a few at a time, and fry briskly until well sealed and no longer red.
  4. Mix in mushrooms, the juice, salt and hazelnuts.
  5. Bring to boil, stirring.
  6. Lower heat and cover pan.
  7. Simmer 1 3/4 to 2 hours or until meat is tender.
  8. To thicken, mix flour smoothly with some of the water.
  9. Gradually blend in rest of water.
  10. Add to beef mixture and cook gently, stirring, until mixture bubbles and thickens.

Note :

A worthwhile party piece and delicious with creamed potatoes and a selection of mixed vegetables or a salad.
