Beef Pasties Recipes

Ingredients :

15ml oil

175g minced beef

15ml tomato purée

1 onion, chopped

1 carrot, diced

50g turnip, diced

1 large potato, diced

25g plain flour

150ml beef stock

15ml chopped fresh parsley

450g prepared short crust pastry

1 egg, beaten

salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method :
  1. Preheated the oven to 375F, Gas 5.
  2. Heat the oil in a large pan and add the minced beef.
  3. Cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the tomato purée, onion, carrot, turnip and potato.
  5. Cook for a further 5 minutes.
  6. Add the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  7. Stir in the stock and season to taste.
  8. Cook over a gentle heat for 10 minutes.
  9. Stir in the fresh parsley and cool.
  10. Roll out the pastry to a large rectangle.
  11. Cut eight 15cm circles.
  12. Spoon the filling onto one half of each pastry circle, brush the edges with egg and fold in half to form a semi-circle.
  13. Crimp the edges and roll.
  14. Brush the pasties with egg and place on a baking sheet.
  15. Cook for 35 minutes or until golden.
  16. Serve with a crisp salad.

Ever popular, these meat and vegetable filled parcels may be made in advance and frozen.
