How to choose pears ?

Pears - Look for firm or medium firm pears. Color depends on the variety - from greenish yellow to brown. Pears that are rock-hard may ripen at room temperature, but sometimes they won’t. It is better to select ones that have already begun to soften, to be sure that they will ripen properly. Avoid limp or shriveled pears. Also avoid pears with spots on the sides or blossom end (away from the stem). This means that brown, dried up tissue may lie beneath.
