Making and Baking Cookies

What if you’ve got a sweet tooth? Are things like cake and cookies always bad?

Like everything else, cake and cookies are fine if you don’t overdo it, and if you eat enough other things, too. You’ll probably find that cookies taste better and fresher if you make them yourself. Home-made cookies are also a good topic of conversation!

Most cookies are fairly easy to make. There are several kinds. Bar cookies - such as brownies and butterscotch squares - are made in a square or rectangular cake pan, and are more like a heavy, chewy cake. Rolled cookies, as their name suggests, are made from dough flattened out with a rolling pin and cut into various shapes with a cookie cutter.

The simplest of all are drop cookies. A small amount of cookie dough is spooned out or pinched off with the fingers and simply dropped (without being rolled or formed or cut) onto the cookie sheet. Then they are baked, or cooked by dry heat in an oven.
