Star Anise is one of the ingredients in five spice powder. Star anise is frequently used in Chinese and Southeast Asian cooking. It is a dark brown, star-shaped, dried spice consisting of eight pods. Star anise adds a licorice taste to foods, and it is often added to the dish whole and removed just before serving.
