Look for honeydews (melons ) with a soft, velvety feel, a yellowish white or cream-colored rind, and a slight softening at the blossom end. Ripe melons will have a faint, pleasant, fruit odor. Avoid melons with a pale white or greenish-white color and hard, smooth feel. They were picked too early.
