Christmas Party

During Christmas, both young and old will gather around for a Christmas party. Traditional Christmas foods like turkey, brownies, apple pie, baked cookies and salad will be eaten; drink such as wine, cocktail and eggnog will be served. After the party, the sound of Christmas carols and songs will fill the air, as laughter and smiels are exchanged over Christmas presents, fun indoor and outdoor games, chats and dancing throughout the night. Most will wish all good things in the world and appreciate how grateful they are for many blessings in their lives.

Christmas Tree

The first Christmas tree without lights appeared in Alsace in 1521. In 17th century, Christmas trees were illuminated with little candles. Other variations like outdoor and artificial Christmas trees appeared around the beginning of the 20th century. Now, common decorations on Christmas tree include start which represented start of Bethlehem, candles which represented the light of Christ coming into the world, evergreens which is the symbol of eternal life, and the candy, fruits, and pastries which represented goodness of our life in Christ and the fruits of the spirit.

Christmas Carols

Popular Christmas carols symbolize everything that Christmas stands for: gathering of families and friends, joy, peace, and the Christmas spirit. Hum the melody of "Jingle Bells", and most people will imagine snowflakes, angels and Christmas bells. However, there is actually a difference between a 'Christmas carol' and a 'Christmas song'. Christmas carols can often be sung by a choir and usually have simple and straightforward rhythms. This is rarely the case for pop and rock songs, which often have more complex lyrics and rhythms.

Christmas Card

The first Christmas card originated from England in 1843. Most people send Christmas greeting cards to their friends and family. The cards will then be hung on the wall of their homes. Traditionally, Christmas cards showed religious pictures - Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, or other parts of the Christmas story. Today, pictures are often jokes, winter pictures, Christmas decorations. Father Christmas, or romantic scenes of life in past times.
