Spiced Red Cabbage Recipes

red cabbage

large red onion, chopped

green apple, cored and chopped

cloves garlic, crushed

ground cloves

ground nutmeg

soft brown sugar

red wine vinegar

butter, cubed

Method :

Preheat the oven to slow 150°C (300°F/ Gas 2). Quarter the cabbage and remove the core. Finely slice, then place in a large casserole dish with the onion and apple. Toss together well. Combine the garlic, cloves, nutmeg, soft brown sugar and vinegar in a small bowl. Pour the mixture over the cabbage, and toss. Dot the top with the butter, then cover and bake for 90 minutes, stirring once or twice. Season to taste, with salt and freshly ground black pepper, and serve hot.
