Ingredients :

beef, diced

turmeric powder

piece ginger, sliced

cloves garlic, sliced

large onion, sliced

large tomato, quartered

piece cinnamon


star anise

sprig curry leaves


salt to taste

Grind to a paste


dried chilies

black peppercorns

Method :
  1. Boil beef till half cooked.
  2. Heat oil in a deep pan, fry onions, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and curry leaves.
  3. When onions are brown, add tomatoes and fry for two minutes.
  4. Add ginger and garlic, fry for a minute.
  5. Add ground spices and turmeric powder and fry well.
  6. Add meat and salt to taste, cover and simmer for five minutes.
  7. Add enough water for a thick gravy, cover and cook till meat is tender.

Serves 6 - 8

The effects of the common cold can be reduced by adding ground cinnamon to hot milk, strengthened with whisky or sweetened with honey, or stirred into a mixture of lemon juice, honey and hot water. The mixture is to be taken at bedtime.
