Ingredients :

fine minced meat

medium onion, finely chopped

clove garlic, crushed

piece fresh ginger, finely grated

fresh red or green chili, seeded and finely chopped

chopped fresh coriander or mint

salt

garam masala

 

ghee

medium onions - finely chopped

clove garlic - finely chopped

piece fresh ginger - finely chopped

turmeric powder

garam masala

chili powder

ripe tomatoes - quartered

salt

chopped coriander or mint

lemon juice to taste

Method :

Meatballs:

  1. Mix the minced meat thoroughly with all the other ingredients.

  2. Shape into balls.

Gravy:

  1. Heat ghee in a large heavy saucepan, brown the meatballs and set aside.
  2. Using the same oil, fry the onions, garlic and ginger until soft and golden.
  3. Add turmeric, garam masala and chili powder.
  4. Fry for 1 minute.
  5. Add tomatoes, salt and meatballs.
  6. Cover the pan and simmer for 25 minutes or until the gravy is thick and the meatballs soft.
  7. Stir in the chopped herbs and lemon juice.
  8. Serve with rice or chapattis.

Serves 6 - 8

The meatballs can also be fried and served with a sauce instead of cooking them in the gravy.
