Sausage Toasts Tuscany Recipes

Ingredients :

200 g

225 g



small, highly flavored fresh Italian sausages

fresh stracchino (crescenza) cheese or a coarsely grated semi-hard stracchino cheese.

long loaf firm textured white bread (about 7.5 cm or 3 inch in diameter), cut in 1/2 inch or 1 cm thick slices and toasted in the oven)

freshly ground black pepper

Method :

  1. Squeeze the sausage meat out of the sausage skins into a mixing bowl.

  2. Add the cheese and pepper and mix very thoroughly with a fork.

  3. Spread each toast with a generous helping of the sausage and cheese mixture and transfer to a large, shallow ovenproof dish.

  4. Bake in preheated oven at 400oF (200oC), Gas 6 for 5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the topping is bubbling.

  5. Serve piping hot straight from the oven.
