Meatball Soup (Bawan Kepeting) Cooking Recipes

Ingredients :

Soup :

minced pork

minced fish flesh, from 660 g fresh fish

crab meat

cooked bamboo shoots, finely shredded

cloves garlic, fried until golden brown


thin soy sauce


salt to taste


cooked bamboo shoots, shredded




Method :
  1. Prepare the soup.
  2. Heat oil and stir fry bamboo shoots for 2 minutes.
  3. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add water, sugar and salt.
  5. Prepare meatballs.
  6. Mix the pork and fish together.
  7. Add salt, soy sauce, fried garlic, bamboo shoots, egg and crab meat.
  8. Mix well and shape into balls.
  9. Drop into boiling soup.
  10. Add bamboo shoots to soup, simmer for 10 minutes and serve immediately.

Serves 4 - 6

Note :

This is traditionally served at weddings. Just like the Chinese, the Nyonya too had the tea serving ceremony. The bride serve the tea to the groom's family and if they accepted the tea, it meat that they accepted her.
