Frumenty Recipe

Ingredients :

200 g

850 ml

25 g

2.5 ml

75 g

25 g

whole wheat

water

brown sugar

ground cinnamon

currants

walnut, chopped (garnish)

pint salt

Method :

  1. Simmer the whole wheat with the water and salt in a large, covered pan for 11/4 - 11/2 hours or until tender and all the water has been absorbed.

  2. Mix together the sugar, spices and currants, stir into the grain mixture and continue cooking for 5 minutes.

  3. Turn into a heated serving dish, sprinkle with the nuts and serve hot - or allow to cool, and serve with stewed fruit.

Serving Suggestion :

Serve it hot with stewed plums, apricots or spiced apples or pears.
