Power Porridge Recipes

Ingredients :

400g rolled oats

105g rice flakes

130g barley flakes

130g rye flakes

205g millet

2 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted

2 tsp linseed (flax)

Method :

Put the rolled oats, rice flakes, barley flakes, rye flakes, millet, sesame seeds and linseed in a large bowl and stir well. Store in a sealed container until ready to use. To prepare the porridge for four people, put 280g (2 cups) of the dry mixture, a pinch of salt and 500ml (2 cups) water in saucepan, then stir well. Leave for 5 minutes (this creates a smoother, creamier porridge). Stir and add another 500ml (2 cups) water. Bring to the boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the porridge, stirring frequently, for 12-15 minutes, or until the mixture is soft and creamy and the grains are cooked. Delicious served with milk or low fat yoghurt and a sprinkling of soft brown sugar.
