Basic Bolognese Sauce Recipes

Ingredients :

15ml olive oil

15g unsalted butter

1 onion, chopped

2 garlic cloves, crushed

450g minced beef

15g plain flour

30ml tomato purée

300ml beef stock

1 x 400g can chopped tomatoes, with their juice

salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method :
  1. Heat the oil and butter in a large pan.
  2. Add the onion, garlic and minced beef.
  3. Cook for 7 minutes stirring all the time until browned and sealed.
  4. Stir in the flour and cook for a further minute.
  5. Add the tomato purée.
  6. Stir in the stock and canned tomatoes.
  7. Season well.
  8. Use to make one of the variations, or cook over a low heat for 50 minutes.

A simple, basic recipe which opens the door to many more recipes. Ideal as a pasta sauce or served with rice or jacket potatoes.
