Split Pea and Ham Soup Recipes

Ingredients :

1.5 cups

3 liters






green split peas


pig's trotters (optional)

piece fat ham or bacon bones

leeks, thinly sliced

medium-sized potatoes, peeled and diced

stalk celery, chopped

Method :
  1. Soak peas in enough water to cover overnight.

  2. Drain well.

  3. Place in a large pan with the water, pigs' trotters and ham or bacon bones.

  4. Bring to boil.

  5. Reduce heat and simmer slowly for 3 hours.

  6. Add leeks, potatoes and celery.

  7. Simmer for another 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  8. Discard the pigs' trotters.

  9. Remove the ham and bacon bones.

  10. Serve with hot crusty bread.
