chicken, minced

cumin (jeera) powder

black cumin (shah jeera)

red chili powder

mustard oil

fennel seed powder

a pinch powder

a pinch cinnamon (daalchini) powder

small pinch asafoetida (heeng)

 

dried plums (aloo bukhara)

 

mustard oil

cloves (laung)

red chili powder

water

green cardamoms (choti elaichi)

black cardamoms (bari elaichi)

bay leaves (tej patta)

black cumin (shah jeera)

turmeric (haldi) powder

black cardamom (bari elaichi) powder

fennel (saunf) powder

cinnamon (daalchini) powder

tomatoes, chopped

salt to taste

Method :
  1. For the dumplings, combine all the ingredients, mix well and divide into 16 equal portions.
  2. Place one dried plum in the center of each portion.
  3. Shape into a balls and keep aside.
  4. For the curry, heat oil in kadhai (wok) till it is smoking.
  5. Add the cloves, when they begin to crackle, reduce the flame.
  6. Add red chili powder, wait for oil to turn red, add water and bring to boil.
  7. Mix in remaining whole spices, powdered spices and condiments.
  8. Bring to the boil and add the chicken dumplings gently.
  9. Cook for 25-30 minutes, till the curry thickens and the dumplings are fully cooked.
  10. Remove into a serving dish and serve hot, accompanied by any Indian bread.
