Lebanese food has become so popular that
ingredients such as burghul and tahini, once only available at
specialist Middle Eastern grocers, can now be purchased at supermarkets
and health food store.
Many people order
only mezze when they eat at a Lebanese restaurant, so popular are these
tasty dishes. The most famous Lebanese salad is Tabbouleh, indispensable
in a Falafel roll, but there are many other ways to prepare the
vegetables of the Middle East. Lebanese chicken and fish dishes are
light and fresh. Lemon, lime and fresh herbs are the flavorings most
often used. Lamb is a favorite meat in Lebanon and it is cooked in
innovative ways. Beef is used less often and is usually formed into
meatballs or casseroled.
Lebanese like their
desserts sweet - they are often perfumed with rose water or orange
flower water. Honey and nuts are a feature too.
